As Sunday, October 13th was Clergy Appreciation Day, and October is Pastor Appreciation Month, your HUMC staff would like to honor the Pastors at Heritage. We’re blessed at Heritage to not just have one Pastor, but three. Each of them with a unique background, and a unique set of skills that they bring to Heritage. However, they all have one common goal: Bringing people closer to Jesus. For those of you who are new or those of you who just might not have heard their stories, we’d like to introduce you to them today!
Pastor Matt Horan joined Heritage United Methodist Church in July of 2018, after serving for 6 years at Hyde Park United Methodist as an Associate Pastor, and 5 years at Seminole Heights United Methodist as a Senior Pastor, both in Tampa, FL. With him, he brought his wife Susan, and their daughters Jenna and Ashley, and Stella, their four-legged child.
Matt attended Florida State University, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Creative Writing, and then a Master’s in Educational Leadership and Administration. However, a few years later, Matt felt God calling him in another direction, and he enrolled at Asbury Theological Seminary, obtaining a Master’s in Divinity/Ministry.
Since arriving at Heritage Matt has started a transformation of Heritage that can be felt across the campus. He has brought back more traditional elements to the Traditional Worship and is setting a foundation for our Contemporary Worship to become a place of creative expression. He’s introduced new community events, like the annual Tree Lighting to kick off Advent, and has enthusiastically encouraged the invitation of all to Heritage.
Matt has a knack for random informational facts and a love of historical (especially Biblical) information. Matt’s passion for ministry is easily felt in his presence as his energetic urgency to lead people to Jesus radiates off of him (especially when he thinks he has a good idea!) We are so excited that Matt and his family have joined us on Heritage’s mission to transform the Countryside community – and the world!
“Simply put, he is passionate about people and bringing them to Jesus.” That’s our very own Associate Pastor, John Silkauskas. Having given his life to Christ during high school, Pastor John genuinely loves people and Jesus and finds ways to share Him everywhere he goes, whether at church, in the checkout line at the grocery store, on the street or in the community. He has a heart for reaching all people and a diverse background of pastoral service which includes a Juvenile Detention Center, youth ministries and missions in Guatemala, Mexico and India.
John came to Heritage as Associate Pastor in 2014 after serving seven years as Youth Pastor at Russell Road Church in Sidney, Ohio. Joined by his wife, Emily, their two boys, Josiah and Micah, and their daughter, Selah, they have since added two more boys to the crew: Noah and Judah!
Since coming to Heritage, John has been instrumental in the growth of our community outreach ministry and helped bring the vision of the Ignite service from concept to reality. Ignite began a little over two years ago with a goal of reaching more people in the community through a casual, energetic and modern atmosphere where God’s Word is presented in relevant ways that are especially welcoming to those who had never attended church. Ignite has now expanded to two services each Sunday and the number of new guests and families continues to grow.
Pastor John earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Bible and Theology from Asbury University, and currently continuing his education pursuing a Master of Divinity degree.
Reverend Curtis Paige is our Congregational Care Pastor at Heritage UMC. Curtis and his wife Barbara have been members of Heritage since October 1998. He began assisting with Congregational Care and then accepted the position of Congregational Care Pastor in September 2015. Curtis is a native Floridian, having been born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida.
If you receive a card in the mail after the loss of a loved one or a meal is delivered after a difficult period of time, that’s Curtis. If you hold a funeral at Heritage or see one being held, that’s Curtis. If you attend a GriefShare or DivorceCare class after/during those difficult times, that’s Curtis. If you’re on our prayer list and get an email of a list of people who need your prayers, that’s Curtis’ team. If you end up in the hospital, one of the first people you’re going to see is Curtis. His love and dedication to God knows no bounds and is constantly evident by the enthusiastic and unwavering support he offers everyone who crosses his path.
Curtis has a passion for helping people in need as evidenced by the growing number of people benefiting from his compassion. He always wears an infectious smile and has a sense of humor to put even the best comedians to shame. His understanding and empathetic nature make it effortless to feel at ease in his company, and you can be sure that if you’re talking to him you’re being heard.
We are so blessed to have Pastor Matt, Pastor John, and Pastor Curtis as a part of our clergy team at Heritage. Between the three of them, they offer the leadership, the real-world connections, the heart and soul, and the foresight to take Heritage closer to Jesus, and we look forward to being on that journey with them for a long time to come!Print This Post
